The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon

Alternative title: The long, obnoxious task of registering for gifts.

Actually, our registry is still a work in progress right now so you can expect to see a few random incoherent posts about it in the upcoming weeks. I'm going to try and start from the very beginning (it's a very good place to start).

You'd think that after 5 years of living together my fiance and I would have a pretty good collection of household items. You'd be wrong. Even though Mr. Coyote just turned 30 (!!!) we still live like a bunch of college sophomores. Honestly, I could probably list all of our kitchen supplies in this post and it wouldn't even be long enough to bore you. Most of the things we do have are either hand-me-downs and/or are so broken that we probably shouldn't even be using them (but I'm way too cheap to replace them).

This makes cooking meals difficult. We end up making the same three things over and over again and then spend the rest of week ordering takeout (see: paragraph above regarding living like college sophomores). This is not a way to live my friends.

Short version? We're basically starting from scratch with our registry.

Deciding on where to register was the easy part. We went with Bed Bath and Beyond because they pretty much have everything under the moon sun (sorry, still thinking about Hey Diddle Diddle) and Macy's because of their awesome rewards program.

At first we were all naive and stupid and thought we could pull up one of those registry checklists from The Knot or Bed Bath and Beyond or a million other places and do the whole thing from the comforts of our couch. HA! While we've managed to check a few of the larger kitchen appliances off our list it was pretty apparent that a) we didn't want/need half the stuff on these lists and b) there were a lot of things missing from the lists that we did want and probably wouldn't even think about unless we walked through the store.

So while we did manage to register for our KitchenAid Stand Mixer:

And last, but certainly not least, a DeLonghi Espresso Machine:

Not gonna lie... Every time I think about having this bad boy in our kitchen I get so excited I pee a little.

The truth is, there are a TON of things we want that just can't be found on that little checklist. For example, just a few weeks ago I was chilling at my future in-laws house chowing down on hazelnuts (filberts? Ah, the endless debate!) when I realized that we don't own a nutcracker! This is definitely a necessity considering the amount of nuts I eat and we never would have thought of it just by browsing online.

Yep that's pretty much the exact nutcracker I was using when I realized that we needed one of our very own. Hopefully not this one though.

I'm sure once we wander through the infinite abyss that is Bed Bath and Beyond we'll scan all sort of neat items for our home that aren't on the generic registry list. And so, it's off to the stores we go!

Did you try to fill your registry from your couch like we did? Did it work out for you?

Oh and do you call them hazelnuts or filberts?!?!

  1. def. call them hazelnuts. and yes I modified my registries while I was work almost every day! It's too much to get it the way you want it right from the get-go.
