The Coyotes Hunt for a Venue (Part I)

My parents, my fiance and I visited seven venues before making our decision. While we didn't downright hate any of the places we visited they all had their own unique sets of pros and cons.

Mmmmm, I love me a good Pro/Con list!

We didn't have too many "must haves", but I really wanted to be able to have everything indoors (even though Murphy isn't invited, I'm pretty sure he's going to crash regardless of what kind of security we have set up). We also knew that we wanted to have the ceremony and the reception in the same location so the venue needed to be able to accommodate us there too. So, with that in mind we headed out!

Our first stop was the gorgeous River Stone Manor. The venue is right on the river (obvs) and has a beautiful banquet facility lined with windows that overlook the water.

Yea I'm still drooling over this ceremony setup.

There is also an estate home from the 1800s where the bridal party can get ready. (The history nerd in me died a little when they gave us a tour of the house.)

The owner was wonderful. He sat down with us and discussed every little detail. Honestly, Mr. Coyote and I were ready to sign right then and there, but there were a few cons... The biggest one being that I didn't really like the rain plan for the ceremony. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it was something to keep in mind.

Venue numero dos was one that I had dreamed of getting married in since I was young. Seriously. This place is ah-maz-ing!

Unfortunately there were some serious problems with this venue. First of all, it was way, way, way over budget (and with good reason!). Especially for a Saturday evening during prime wedding season. We would need to make a lot of cuts in order to make this venue work for us.

But budget aside, there was a logistical issue. The Hall of Springs is actually part of a state park and is adjacent to a performing arts center. The schedule of summer concerts wouldn't be released until a few months before our wedding and there was no way to know who might be performing that night. It might be just be the New York City Ballet or the Philadelphia Orchestra. Or it could be Godsmack. Or even worse....

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND

Ugh. I don't think I can quite describe to you how much I despise Dave Matthews Band. I hate them with the fire of a thousand suns. And yet, every year they have this big blowout at the performing arts center in which mobs of high school kids show up, get drunk and stoned and generally cause a ruckus.

And although we would be renting the venue for wedding, you can't have exclusive rights to the surrounding property. Which means there would be nothing stopping a group of wasted punk-ass kids from stumbling around outside of the venue during our wedding.

Okay, obviously this is all worst case scenario, but there were so many unknown factors to think about with this venue and I just couldn't stomach it.

Speaking of stomaching things, we had only been to two venues and I was starving and already starting to feel exhausted. We had some time before our third meeting so we took a breather.

To be continued....
